Now it’s time to adjust our view and hide any remaining elements that are blocking the details we want to explore.
- Double-click on the group you want to examine and use the Move Tool to see details. Alternatively, you can Hide and Unhide components to explore how they are constructed.
- Click the Section Plane button and select an axis to cut through.
- Hold the mouse wheel down and pan around, or use the Pan and Orbit buttons to adjust your view of the details. Follow the same process to extract any specific construction detail you want.
- We want to see how our foundation is built. To do this, select all groups and components above the foundation. It’s important to select all groups, or you won’t have the foundation separated properly.
- Now, right-click and explode your foundation group, or double-click to enter the group for editing. Separate your foundation and reassemble it, continuing this process until you fully understand your foundation's construction.
- In this example, we want to see how the interior wall frames are constructed. Navigate inside your house and set a good perspective. You can even use the Field of View function to adjust your view. Then, right-click and hide the groups that are in the way.
- Now that we’ve hidden the interior cladding, we can see the interior wall construction behind it.
- We’ve also chosen to hide the insulation between the partition studs, allowing us to see the entire wooden frame construction for the interior walls. We can continue with the same method to see how the structure is built from the foundation to the roof ridge.
- As we continue, you can see that we have full access to all the construction details we need, with no restrictions. In this final example, I wanted to show the framing details of the stick frame construction. You’ve got the method right—it’s that simple.
In conclusion, you can easily access all your model’s critical construction details and fully understand its structure in SketchUp. Just follow this foolproof method to access SketchUp BIM details in no time.
